I'm looking for an mp3-player: are Ipods a good choice or am I better off with something else?

i'm looking simple, no need fancy options games or camera or whatever.
need have recording option, speaker , lot of memory space music (more 8 gb).
players fit these criteria in stores ipods though , problem hear people complain how complicated are.

want able connect mp3-player computer, have file appear wherein can put music want, transfer music, disconnect , i'm done.
ipods however, hear crazy stories having add songs via itunes , synchronizing , other weird stuff don't get.
i've got life do, don't have time complicated methods transfer music, since ipods players find have want, i'm hesitating buy 1 anyway.

ipods choice? complicated people make seem or...?
