Boat builders out there? I'm looking for help?

i've spent past few days doing research on how build boat, , see it's basic, nail wood , seal leaks.
thinking of building boat 16 feet long 8-ish feet high , 8 feet wide. save money thinking i'd build sides , save cabin roof , sail after find out if can make stay afloat. using plywood , 5 2x4x8's can put price $150 before fiberglass or epoxy.
main concern shape of boat effect how stays afloat? i'm thinking having 2x4x8 cut in half each rib bolted @ 3 different angels (bottom 90 degree, , 4 feet more 80 degree).
when put in water, sides cause boat tip?
helpful tips building great.
