in hershey, pennsylvania when saw this. i've seen elsewhere, prominent me there. live in pennsylvania, i've ever seen in areas. ones saw tall. bark white-light gray color blobs of darker gray on it. wasn't birch, because wasn't choppy (the bark kind of resembled clay). asked stepfather it, , said when young, he'd call them "army trees"
