I think there's a rat in the wall - what do I do?

last night in middle of night heard scurrying in wall , gnawing, , i'm assuming it's rat. details:

- in top corner of bedroom, , bedroom on raised ground floor, 10 feet of ground. how hell did there?
- looked outside morning couldn't see holes might've gotten in.
- live in rented flat can landlord fix it?
- it's terrace flat in between our flat , our neighbours. don't know neighbour.
- can't see evidence rat has made our flat yet.

... how rid of him/her/them???
