Fired on second day of new job (programming) for not learning fast enough?

got job php developer 2 days ago. have maybe 2 years of experience , don't have degree great opportunity me. have thousands , thousands of line of code , hundreds of files on web server. day 1 did not give me opportunity learn code , how application worked, started giving me stuff do. lost , wasn't able done. got done easy tasks on first day, , boss said pleased how i'd gotten done , saved harder tasks until today. told boss take while figure out how these harder tasks, , said fine. barely got done today, because i've had 0 time on code. @ end of day today boss asked me accomplished today, , when told him managed do, , i'm still trying learn system, said disappointed , didn't think position fit me. said didn't need come office again , they'd find else job. don't know do, feel worthless, feel had unrealistic expectations?? should have been given week learn code before did real work...

have part time weekend job , in second year @ university. make £500 month. according pension funds, if pay 10% (£50) month, company double , money government means pay less £50. there different types of funds available, easiest being 'target fund' investment company moves money based on age. there index trackers , other equities/funds. can advise better long time investment.
