Why do vacation days expire and not cashed out?

work 5, 6 days week under fear if take day off laid off. on 2 days have called in sick , been sick, boss calls , asks me if looking new job. there work open christmas week cannot take days then. have more 2 weeks saved , told lose them @ end of year. cash payout me lot more no company this. why system set punish people come in , work hard every day?

have part time weekend job , in second year @ university. make £500 month. according pension funds, if pay 10% (£50) month, company double , money government means pay less £50. there different types of funds available, easiest being 'target fund' investment company moves money based on age. there index trackers , other equities/funds. can advise better long time investment.
