Is using a different type of light bulb really a hazard?

moved apartment , realized lamp outside next door has sticker on says "to reduce risk of fire hazard, use type light bulb."

know lot of times people ignore these types of warnings , never experience problems. i'm asking here input people, i've went ahead , bought set of light bulbs minute noticed light bulb had went out... didn't realize required a, , brought home b. sizes different, can confirm if biggie?
