Using an old Dell PC as a monitor for my mac?

hi,
got new mac , use old dell pc monitor. have vga cable , adapter (for mac) when plug of pc doesn't , dell screen stays normal dell on login. doing wrong? possible?

note: not mean using dell monitor mac (i know that's possible) mean using actual dell computer/ pc monitor.

help!

have part time weekend job , in second year @ university. make £500 month. according pension funds, if pay 10% (£50) month, company double , money government means pay less £50. there different types of funds available, easiest being 'target fund' investment company moves money based on age. there index trackers , other equities/funds. can advise better long time investment.
