Do rural areas have neighbour,school and stores?

how rural? father lives, in appalachian mountains of virginia. nearest store 30 minute drive , sells beer, ammo , tobacco sign out front reading "leave guns outside" passing hunters walking through. has neighbor lives far walk , have internet, it's still dial up, slow possible, drive crazy type.

nearest walmart hour away, nearest school close walmart. lives there works @ walmart, or prison built because it's far out in boondocks.

edit: has natural spring fresh water , pumps home.
