What is the risk with overclocking graphic card?

if keep temperatures under control , careful should safe. it's when start increasing voltage core run big risks of burning out card. however, no overclocking free of risk , void warranties.

@ benjamin, many modern graphics cards run @ tempatures of 90c (sometimes higher) stock coolers.

i have palit 8800gt. if overclock , keep temp bellow 90c there other risk except overheating. heard overclocking can shorten life of graphic card?
