Google Play services has stopped unexpectedly?

every 5-10 minutes, error message on phone says "the application google play services (process com.google.android.gms) has stopped unexpectedly. please try again". started happening couple of days ago. whatever is, keeps trying sync keeps crashing. can't stop trying sync, either. when go settings , try cancel it, doesn't anything.

thinking removing it, know it's used updates google play store, , i'd rather fix problem instead of removing app.

*the phone have samsung galaxy s2, , runs 2.3.6.
