Do scientists who work at universities have a lot of free time at work to do whatever?

depends.

many scientists work @ universities work very hard , not have "a lot of free time whatever". often, because these scientists love , driven work hard learn more. of these scientists working on important things, trying find cures cancer, aids, ebola, leukema, alzheimer's, etc.

true scientists work in industry have time whatever (including answer questions in yahoo).

there scientists, regardless of work, recognized being very innovative , given lot of "free rein" work on things want work on (because have proven track record of important accomplishments).

organizations recognize high performing individuals benefit "change" , then. instance, intel has program "forces" people take sabatical every 7 years, 12 months paid @ normal salary go unrelated job has been past 7 years. when sabatical over, person returns different job in intel. many univesities offer sabaticals (that may intel got idea?).

though it, unfair generallize that, x people way , y people way.

non-work related stuff, go on web sites , bs people?
