sort of, yes. canada had de facto sovereignty before that, in asking parliament's permission formality, got full de jure sovereignty in affairs in 1982.

of course, argue united states has never had de jure sovereignty because declared independence unilaterally. law not finnicky these things; reality tends win out on legal arguments.

how canada deal it's nascent freedom? want under british control?
