Why does the piccolo exist?

before recorded history, people made flute short hollow reed, short animal bone, , high, good, , make instrumental music. yay. (a bone flute approximately 40,000 years old unearthed few years ago.)

flutes, piccolos, our 'modern' woodwinds, keys, 1 step more in long development of making flutes, tiny little flutes became piccolos, longer flutes became standard concert flutes....

now, i'm more interested in why electric guitar exists - @ sweetest hot-wire straight through brain, 1 ear other. no possible excuse or reason particular axe :-)
