Why are there so many homeless on the streets of TORONTO?

every city know has homeless issue. faced issue in toronto, montreal, los angeles, san francisco, new york, paris, london, edinburgh, capetown, , amsterdam.

people lose jobs, cannot afford keep homes, don't qualify affordable housing, , end on street. drug users. mentally ill cannot or not seek treatment. there variety of reasons why may end homeless.

population of toronto estimated @ 2.6 million people. make 5.5 million if count greater toronto area. that's pretty big city. have expect @ least few people in need in group. of 2009, there on 5000 homeless people on streets or living in homeless shelters. improvement on numbers 2006.

problem being homeless in canadian city (except maybe vancouver) weather can pretty nasty here october april. homeless person in los angeles may have bundle few nights of year, don't face weeks of -10c weather!

don't think toronto worse other cities mentioned. in fact, i'd suggest better. , @ least seem trying make difference, , not abandoning them in cold. again, i've never been homeless (came close once) not 1 speak how feel toronto's efforts homeless out.
