What are the differences between Railway Station, Junction, Halt and Terminal?


railway station (often 'depot' in usa) place passengers can leave , join trains.

junction 2 or more tracks join, i.e. where, example branch line leaves main line. name 'junction' may appended station name if station @ junction. officially, term 'junction' refers connection between 2 parallel tracks, enabling trains cross 1 another.

halt countryside station - platform , shelter - intending passengers 'flag down' train stop, , passengers on board train want off @ halt have notify conductor in advance, can tell driver/engineer stop @ it.

terminal station @ end of line - each incoming track ends @ stop-blocks , goes no further.
