1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ) shows no oil pressure?

98 grand cherokee laredo (zj) has 4.0. since purchased month ago, oil pressure gauge has never worked. have read of instances oil pressure sending unit go bad , have strange fluctuations in oil pressure readings - gauge has never moved off of zero. truck runs , drives fine. i'm trying decide if oil pressure sending unit, or if somehow oil pressure gauge in instrument cluster has gone bad. other gauges in cluster work fine. ideas? thanks!
