I'm travelling to Italy next year.... advice?!?

landing in rome , staying 6 weeks. that's have book right haha
have friend suggests travel sicily stay them , family month , spend 2 weeks seeing florence , rome.... because insisted wanted see these 2 places @ least if going long.

out of mine excited! cannot wait meet friend , family , friend , see sicily think making bad use of time?

uni student , have been told can have free accommodation friend (although intend pay way bit) , have given myself (at moment) budget of 5k, including flights, travel , accommodation.

seasoned travellers, think? can't miss while in italy. trip isn't see friend way, have wanted see italy, said, limited money...
