Opinion on adopting an older reptile?

i've adopted pets. dogs, cats, rodents, , have had no problem it. cause full personality of them after young stage. i've been wanting reptile , looking adopting one. looking @ ball python or bearded dragon, possibly corn snake. wondering other people thought situation. think better raise own or adopt?
