how big it? if you're talking small transmission gear,maybe find metal shop , ask them if can weld small round , flat piece of sheet metal on 1 side , make beer cup coaster! if it's big gear flywheel (i don't know why you'd have 1 of those) i've seen them turned end tables. possibly smaller gear make pencil/pen holder too.

i have gear subaru , not need , wanted make out of boyfriend. kind of decoration or candle holder or aha. if have ideas, awesome!
