How long does a background check takes when applying for a B2 NIV us visa?

applied b2 niv on 4th of december @ consulate in cairo, egypt, , co said needs background check on me , have check website status of visa regularly after 1 week of application , send email consulate after 3 weeks if nothing happened.
i'm bit in hurry cuz need start doing travel arrangements booking flight ticket cuz every day gets more expensive.
wanna travel on 17th of jan 2013 , it's stated in application, when u think reply back??, consider travel dates?? , happens?? , why???????

not afraid of being refused cuz have nothing on me whatsoever not worries me. worries me thing takes forever!!!!
