Tokyo to Kyoto- day trip or overnight?

think it's worth visit kyoto during 6 day trip.

can go tokyo kyoto in 2 hours or if take shinkansen bullet train.

major lines shinkansen line have english statement , announcement. it's relatively easy around jr.

i plan visit tokyo 6 days in october. worth visit kyoto 1-2 days or rushed?
jr easy around if know english? i've heard navigating streets pretty hard.
