Spanish for 5th grader?

sons school(grades 3-5) offering spanish classes during free time(1 hour after lunch every monday, wednesday, , friday) during "free time" can walk track, dance class, nature class)

anyways, after winter break over(beginning of january) offering spanish class free time.

@ old schools, didn't have spanish til high school. , that's way it's been in our town until now.

offering in middle school.

question. child's school have spanish class? mandatory or optional?

worry of kids have enough problems english language still. spanish idea? think?

son wants this, i'm not sure since he's not spelling or punctuation. should let him try? can't out of class until end of month.(i.e. if doesn't work out, can't leave class until 1st of february)
