Chess: Can anyone teach me how to mate with a bishop and knight vs a lone king?

tricky isn’t rocket science. learnt how textbook when beginner without effort. endings there regular technique it, can learn no matter how strong are.

important principle must drive opponent’s king corner square same colour bishop's squares. , therefore block him off other corner, square different colour bishop's.

once in corner, mate either takes place in corner (if delivered bishop), or on square of opposite colour on either side of corner square (if delivered knight).

technique involves restricting king smaller , smaller triangles until corner. key point realise knight, king, has cover squares of opposite colour bishop's. if have light-squared bishop, need use knight , king cover dark squares.

snag each time knight moves (and no matter moves to), covers opposite colour colour covering previously. have think ahead bit knight, , manoeuvre ready cover squares of opposite colour bishop's @ right time. means temporarily retreating knight.

useful ploy have make "waiting" moves bishop in order force opponent's king move. note bishop best piece make such waiting moves can keep covering same diagonal after has moved.

here description shows how works in practice:

way, have played many thousands of games of chess during life, have ever played 1 game - against computer many years ago - in had mate knight , bishop! still fun learn technique, , never know when might need it...

yeah, admit, never bothered learn before now.
