sure there is. first thing must fuel vaporized ahead of intake, as possible. change cam. consider reverse pattern cam, no more single pattern cam. change heads.(vortec heads)
put overdrive trans in it. single exhaust. tighten piston head 'squish' clearance, put compression (without domed pistons).
work quadrajet over. one-two inch thick '4 hole' carb spacer.(good luck hood clearance.)
install wide band o2 sensor in exhaust , start tuning cab based on readings.

these beginning minimums.
