Did religion repress science?

depends on religion , period of time. else mentioned here, islam made lot of scientific achievements during golden age. "pagan" or ancient religions many cultures followed hand in hand science , oftentimes promoted scientific advancements, didn't see science , religion separate today. religions of maya prompted them want learn , advance in fields of astronomy , math, did. pyramids built religious reasons built on precise mathematical figures , align astronomical events. religions of people them not separated science, , knowledge of world around them shaped religion. whole religion vs science issue didn't become problem until organized religions, particularly abrahamic religions, began use doctrines suppress science. if religion , science contradict, religion given upper hand. has been going on over millennium , still happens today (see evolution in public schools debate). not religions have suppressed science (most of them didn't , don't), many embraced it. it's select few religions have suppressed it, , happen largest ones in world unfortunately.
