What is the difference between an i5 and i7 processor?

don't understand why people saying things say.

ivy bridge i5 processors quad core (assuming talking desktop, far mobile there may dual cores), if talking first generation, might dual core. if are, quad core better.

difference between latest gen of i5 , i7 in speed 0.1ghz, , $100, , i7 has hypertreading, used in things video editing, 3d editing, or code compiling, if not of that, paying $100+ 0.1ghz increase in speed, obtainable overclocking, , barely noticeable.

is changes in speed or there more that?
