If I'm in special Ed can I still go to a good college not community?
hi,
yes, special education students can college. depends level of services receiving. if learning academics far below assigned grade level supposed at, community college option. many special education students don't receive high school diploma, because learn @ modified curriculum. earn "certificate of completion or special ed. diploma". can't college neither of certificates. if in regular ed classes, have greater chances of getting diploma , moving on higher education (college education), if meet college specific requirements. if don't, community college option. start out @ community college 2 years , transfer university , stay in dorms. many people because community college cheaper (less expensive).
think should talk iep team post-secondary transition goals.they can determine whether diploma or not. said before, doesn't hurt start out @ community college because it's less expensive. same until got scholarship boston university. receiving special education services in high school because of dyscalculia (a math learning disability). did diploma because wasn't in special ed. classes. in regular ed. classes. special ed. teacher come in math classes me class work. wish best in further future. please take advice.
