Cruise to Progresso, Mexico?

there beach can walk to. buses cruise ship let off in market area. can walk couple of blocks north beach. there find many restaurants. beach ok not great, in january. beaches in caribbean nicer. may want @ excursions offered in progreso , save beach day cozumel.

there's lots of impressive sights see progreso. mayan ruins, if given choice between uxmal , chichen itza, pick uxmal. it`s less crowded , closer. there closer ruins not impressive. city of merida nice shopping, museums, colonial arctecture. there`s bird watching along coast. cenotes, haciendas. sight below show of things available in area.

other post mentions place gave it`s name crater, that's chicxulub puerto, there's small monument there in main square not see really. mention scorpion reef (alacranes reef national park), won't have enough time there on day trip cruise ship. it's 100 km north, takes 3.5 hours there , need obtain permit in advance since protected area.

going on cruise progresso next month , don't have excursions booked. there once off ship? there close beach can walk to?
