Why do people consider 1/2 irish people Irish-American?

if born , reared in or canada , call irish, referring heritage, family background, whatever. it's done thing there. however, if come ireland, having been born , reared in or canada or wherever, , start calling irish, politely told not irish, irish-american (or canadian or whatever).

reason why can in 1 country , not in simple: in europe, such labels refer one's nationality, , not heritage. because born , grew in such different country, cannot expect considered 'national' of country. considered american or canadian or whatever of italian or irish ancestry.

and don't consider people 1/32 or 1/64irish irish-americans. if consider irish or italian.etc. because have grandparent that's heritage. people should consider other grandparents down line.
