Difference between dual core,core to duo and core i3?

dual core s generic term meaning 2 cores. core 2 duo means "core 2" intel dual core, not confused core2 quads, ie core2 successor "core" cpus , made duals , quads in line. i3 part of current generation i3-3xxx (12/2012) , 1 before (i3-2xxx). intel makes in order of performance, celerons, pentiums, i3, i5, i7 , xeons member of each generation, new celeron may faster mid-range chip last generation. these can dual or quads destinction becoming vauge because constitutes core no longer clear. instead, may see 4 or 8 "threads".

in case, don't pay attension such things or clock rates etc.. instead, find exact part number , performace benchmark @ passmark. passmark benchmarks not perfect, people find comparing apples , oranges decision clear.
