Is football(soccer)becoming more popular or less popular in italy these years?

2) crumbling stadiums - municipally (local government) owned - not attractive places , not present in way of amenities.

3) sporadic issues crowd violence, particularly "ultras". these hard-core fans whom sit in special sections behind goals (though not case teams.) there concerns violent actions of ultras make game less attractive women , families attend. can argued spectacle (signs, huge) , fervent support ultras can bring attract other groups whom enjoy watching ultras put on choreographed cheers , spectacular signs.

4) economics of big clubs not good. there exceptions. teams not getting near revenue games teams in other major european soccer powers getting due fact few teams own own stadiums , have share revenue state , local government. juventus has built stadium - not coincidence that, despite recent "calciopoli" scandal issues - economically stable , profitable team of all. inter has sold approximately 15% of overall interests chinese consortium, , consortium actively pursuing collaborative effort local interests build stadium solely inter.

overall, popularity remain high though - in tabaccheria or trattoria number 1 conversation amongst men "calcio" (soccer in italian.) politics , women favorite subjects of course. higher go in economic standing there bit less of this, still, soccer #1 sport in italy. basketball , volleyball popular near calcio in overall impact on society, regardless of economic standing. athletics (track , field) popular again, near popular soccer.

short answer: still popular , still far ahead of other sports basketball, volleyball , athletics. have major issues need addressed stated above.
