Gr.12 student entering university next year?

i'm in bit of unique situation.

next year, entering university close home. bus commute might take 40 minutes, car 15-25, depending on traffic , weather. because 1 of parents works @ university, free tuition years attend particular university. because of huge relief on finances, considering living in residence (for 1st year only) before returning live @ home remaining years until degree. want live in res because didn't have best experience in high school..i want independent, make friends , ''university experience'' , break home life (my fam drives me little crazy tbh :p). since i'll saving pretty $7000+/year in tuition , receiving @ least $2000 in scholarship money per year, think should take advantage of , pay live in res 1st year? did live in residence or did commute? happy decision?
