Where does lightning go after it strikes to ground?

doesn't "go" anywhere. when friction of ice crystals in fast rising air mass creates static electricity, separates negative field @ base of cloud. induction, creates positive field in ground, right under cloud. when tension great enough , triggering system still don't entirely understand, 2 different polarities shortcut. impression "travels" because can see along tree or house, before getting ground. stops there because largest mass is: ground.

example, lightning can kill fishes in sea, not electrocuting them, sonic shock wave when bolt being several thousand degrees hot meets water.
