Ways an ipad screen can crack ACCIDENTALY?

going mail today , had ipad 2 on top of box in hands. walking car when kind tripped , ipad literally sled off box. fell on corner had cover on it. mom doesn't know has crack didn't open until got home. there's smushed corner crack leading way across screen, , spread out. not web crack, separate lines. it's not bad.0, mom still doesn't know cracked when dropped it. don't want tell broke that. i'm gonna hide few days tell broke accidentally. how should tell broke? nothing me dropping like, falling or something? please help
