Can I put a clay model under water for a few hours, or will it start to dissolve?

dissolve. try sealing clay water insoluble varnish. once dry, might protect long enough. wouldn't pour water tub until ready display it.

if there still time, better material have been plaster of paris.

my son has made model of ocean floor out of regular air-drying clay. model in tupperwear style tub, , we'd pour water in display @ project fair 3 hours. work, or model ruined?
