Renting a car in snow?

renting @ enterprise in cleveland, oh airtport , driving buffalo ny , on 90. traveling 2 small children , have never driven in snow. @ least, not snow in area.

things need check on rental car before go? thinking things adequate tire tread? else?

things need pack in car? thought things full tank of gas in case traffic sitting. think snow chains bit much. pack?

, if knows how highway closes or can date info on closures, helpful.
