well, wasn't quick , easy when comparing modernization efforts of leaders of other countries, was. reza shah of iran tried replace arabic alphabet of persian latin 1 failed due strong opposition. whereas ataturk successful despite facing oppostion conservatives. son reza pahlavi continued father's modernization policies overpowered ayatollah khomeini in 1979. zahir shah of afghanistan had modernization policies of own westernizing dress code ataturk did wasn't successful. when see leaders of conservative countries trying ataturk did, aren't successful. ataturk did in 20s , 30s , amazingly modernization policy still lives. not turkey first country have women in parliament. daughter sabiha gökçen first female turkish pilot.

know akp conservative party erdogan appears modern when comparing him secular minded arab leaders. labeled european of year , capital punishment abolished in 2004. note capital punishment still exist in america, western country. conservative people in turkey appear more modern modern arabs. ataturk's legacy lives on. but, not legacy of other leaders. so, what's ataturk's secret?
