What does a stock trader do?

meant, when buy 1000 shares (for example) 8 bucks share , sell them @ 8.10 (lets say)
ok, earned 100 bucks ..but did (effected something) other earn?
have helped someone? (its not philosophical question,and not against earning way ..that want do) ..this meant.thanks

hi know "effect" stock traders have.
mean not do..but contribution , why needed.
