dec 21 2012 date based on last day of ancient mayan long count calender (one of many calenders ancient mayans made). doomsday theory modern theory of why long count calender ends on dec 21 2012, have nothing ancient mayans says it's doomsday nor have strong evidence of today. ancient mayans made long count calender accurate thousands of years ahead (from ancient mayans point of view) coundn't make go on forever. reasonable assume dec 21 2012 (the winter soltice) date end calender no higher meaning
