If we evolved from apes Why?
saying humans evolved apes oversimplification. humans *are* apes, , apes aren't 1 species. humans - , other ape species - evolved common ancestor. species went extinct long ago. also, helps not think of evolution ladder leading humanity. it's more branching tree. every species on own branch , follows own evolutionary path. if want analogy, think of family tree. other apes aren't our ancestors, rather more distant cousins. expecting apes evolve humans expecting cousins give birth brothers , sisters. doesn't work way.
why did our common ancestor split different species? because spread out on large enough area. different populations split off , isolated each other. random nature of mutations mean they'd follow separate evolutionary paths (though non-random nature of natural selection ensured whatever evolved suited environment). there's no choice involved - different natural pressures acting on different populations.
it's not accurate we're not evolving today. evolution takes thousands of generations. we've known evolution 150 years, which, assuming generation time of 25 years, comes out 6 generations. that's way short period of time expect see changes in humans.
if evolved apes why arent still evolving , why still apes? did have choice.
