Amsterdam trip advice!!?

i've planned go amsterdam 3 other friends between 28th - 31st dec year 24th birthday , i'm experiencing 2 problems:

1) 2 of friends have provided me passport details , ready go (booked necessary leave work, enough £, etc) other friend having serious problems getting time off , keeps postponing reply til "friday" or "monday" or "soon". need book our plane tickets prices increasing , have done first person show interest in holland way in feb, , feel bad. should this?
2) need know whether it's idea/cheaper turn amsterdam without reservation , book room on arrival or book online. i've been advised people have been before former better need double check. hostels , hotels i've seen @ stage expensive (about £170 each) i'd love former better idea worried!

please help! i've been trying plan couple of months , know should have done in advance have relatively received definitive "yes" answers friends. save birthday lol!

have part time weekend job , in second year @ university. make £500 month. according pension funds, if pay 10% (£50) month, company double , money government means pay less £50. there different types of funds available, easiest being 'target fund' investment company moves money based on age. there index trackers , other equities/funds. can advise better long time investment.
