Home water purification/filter options?

moved , new place has softened or salted water cleaning , pipes can't cook or drink it. tried 1 of pur 3-stage filters on faucet water still way salty drink.

buy bottled water drink , used use tap cooking. i'm renting , don't have lot of money solution. thinking having sparkletts delivered, wanted make sure there isn't better option i'm missing.
