Why is an American school shooting international news, but a Chinese school stabbing not?

i'm american living in europe. cnn had segment incident in china 22 children stabbed @ school, besides discussing school shooting in us. local national news channel had big segment on recent school shooting in us, not word china. , in general, i've experienced shootings given greater priority stabbings or other kinds of assaults, when on large scale.

why 1 bigger news other? because 1 involves knives , other involves guns? because 1 in , in china?
