Why is Australia not called the 'Kingdom of Australia'?

australia's official name 'commonwealth of australia'. yes, australia commonwealth member , realm, monarchy, capable of producing king sovereign. why not called kingdom of australia, or united kingdom of new south wales, tasmania, victoria, queensland, south australia , western australia? though mouthful... understand there movement wanting australia called 'royal kingdom of australia' cool.
