What comes first an egg or an hen?

i'm chickens in garden, can have nice fresh eggs eat, , have done research on this.

keep own chickens fresh eggs, have buy chickens first. so, concluded chicken has come before egg...

but, discovered would-be chicken keepers can buy fertilized eggs , keep them warm until hatch , make chickens grow , give eggs.

it's conundrum! going round in circles forever.

perhaps people should use question "what came first, chicken or egg?" general response intractable conundrum in life. there's idea! :)
