Why military people paint peaks (> or ^ ) on the camouflage schemes of vehicles?

varies, depending on application , purpose. on military aircraft small red triangles adjacent cockpit warn of ejector seat, larger "<" or ">" in red warn of jet intakes. important personnel outside aircraft. makes no difference value of camouflage - if you're close enough distinguish markings it's irrelevant anyway!

on armoured vehicles various markings, in white, identification purposes. instance identify squadron commander, troop commander or whatever. vary country country , unit unit have meaning colleagues.

for example, have seen symbol > both near cockpit of aircraft , on hull of armoured vehicles, painted in red unlikely camouflage colours.
