Watercolour or acrylic?

i'm planning on painting mum christmas (little fairy person, probably) don't know whether use watercolour or acrylic. honest, not comfortable either of them, have used watercolour more. if it's done right, acrylic looks better? have wood stuff or canvas use acrylic, , have watercolour paper, materials isn't problem. can't decide use.
