Is 3D TV worth the cost and will it last?

parents getting me new tv xmas. have choice.
46" 3d hd tv
52" hd tv.
bigger tv = no 3d.
wouldn't such big decision have 3d blue ray player. need we're glasses. i'm wondering if it's worth having smaller tv ad 3d or not. i'm avid tv , gaming fan, i'm not sure.
