How french is western canada?

there few 'isolated pockets' there french. st. boniface, manitoba (suburb of winnipeg) used have sized french population although don't know whether that's case today. maillardville, bc, district of coquitlam suburb of vancouver used have fair bit of french not today.

though, time hear french spoken anywhere in west if if happen turn on cbc french channel. (the federal government forces cbc operate french language tv stations in major western markets regardless of how few people may watching --- our tax dollars @ work)

can live there without hearing french?
